Nap Sync
Such a elusive moment when the kids nap in sync. Apart from seeming like a major 'syncing' victory, the most alarming realization is how much you can get done in this time. Even if it's a mere 10 minutes of synced nappage. The highly attuned multi tasking ability of Mums is breathtaking. I literally go into super human cleaning/ administrative/ cooking mode when these slivers of time miraculously appear. Despite baby brain taking it's toll on short term memory, nap sync seems to unravel the baby haze and bring the most unbelievable clarity. Yet another mystery of parenthood.

Balloons
Balloons are SO fun for little ones and are a mainstay at birthday parties. My 'fearless' young Magnus found his Nemesis today in the form of 10 florescent balloons. It's fascinating/ terrifying as a mother to watch your child's first altercation with a balloon, an experience which will likely end badly for all involved. However, as with so many parenting milestones, when the inevitable 'pop' of the balloon occurs, my reaction would inevitably seal the fate of Magnus' future relationship with these party favorites. Buddy does't seem too scarred however, having popped every balloon in the back yard.... fearless to the end!

Baby Brain
Once you pop a baby out, life changes. But does anyone tell you about baby brain? And even if they did, NOTHING prepares you for it. I used to list 'excellent memory' as one of my greatest assets . Having got me through school, university, and put to very good use during a career in film production, I was experiencing a slight decline in attenuation but chalked it down to the odd Pinot Grigio. Pregnancy didn't seem to impact. 3 years on and 2 kids under 30 months I can barely remember what day it is! Apparently our brains decrease in size after childbirth' and I can attest. Sleep deprivation and maniacal multi tasking surely doesn't help but the lack any sort of recall is astounding. I literally forget everything! Driving destinations.. what's in the fridge...where I put the dog's leash, the list goes on. I'm told I will recover but doubtful the sparky brain of a precocious teen is back in shape soon. Ahhhhh but it's worth it.
